USTU Rector Becomes Honorary Citizen of Ukhta

Back in June at the meeting of the Council of the Municipal Urban District “Ukhta” it was decided to present Ukhta State Technical University Rector, Professor Nikolay Tskhadaya with an Honorary Citizen of Ukhta Award for his outstanding achievements in the field of science and education. On September 4 in a solemn ceremony, dedicated to 85th anniversary of the region's oil and gas industry, Mayor of the city Igor Mikhel and the head of the Municipal Urban District “Ukhta” Roman Melnyk awarded a certificate conferring on the Rector of the University the honorary title.

“This is the most exciting and the most responsible moment”, said Nikolay Tskhadaya. “For me and for our University, which I do not hesitate to say, makes the history of not only our beloved city, but also of the Republic, this is a significant award. I sincerely thank the residents of the city of Ukhta for the appreciation of our work.”

Participating in the evening dedicated to the anniversary of the oil and gas industry was the interim head of the Komi Republic, Vyacheslav Gaiser. "I believe it is very appropriate to hold the main events on the 85th anniversary of the region's oil and gas industry in Ukhta. The first Russian oil was discovered here, and a large-scale industrial field development of Komi Republic began from there", said Vyacheslav Gaiser from the stage of the Palace of Culture of Ukhta.

As he has noted, if to call the oil as "black gold", then people, who are producing, transporting and refining oil and gas, can be rightly called as "pure gold".

Vyacheslav Gaiser also reported that the Government of the Komi Republic has decided to start two major social projects the following year, namely construction of a new surgical facility in the settlement of Shudayag and the complete renovation of the Children's Park, including the building of the former House of Pioneers. It is expected to allocate one and a half billion rubles on both projects.
