On Monday, 16th October, Ecology and Natural Resource Management department organized a seminar with Finnish student Siiri Söyrinki, who currently works as an intern at the international department. Siiri studies in Environmental Change and Policy master program at University of Helsinki and is interested in solving environmental problems. The theme of seminar was mitigating climate change in Finnish energy sector as Siiri is looking forward to exploring the subject in her master thesis. Students and professors from ecology department took part in the seminar.
In the period from 5 to 7 October 2017, the First Secretary of the Embassy of Malaysia in Moscow Syed Saifuddin Bin Syd Ahmad visited USTU. The main purpose of the visit is acquaintance with the university complex, strengthening of friendly relations, discussion of directions of possible cooperation, including future study citizens of Malaysia at USTU.
On 5th October, 2017, the international department hosted the opening ceremony of the preparatory course, the main goal of which is to train international students who come to USTU from the far abroad countries and to prepare them for entering the university to continue their study at bachelor's and master's programs.
On 22nd September 2017 a meeting of the international council of rectors in mining engineering education was held the Mining University. Among the participants there were 120 university leaders from over 60 countries.
The international department of USTU gives students and teachers the opportunity to participate in academic exchange programs almost anywhere in the world. Of the options, the most popular chosen destinations are in the northern parts of Europe. This semester, an international student who is in her second year in oil and gas department, Olga Akulova took the opportunity. Until January, 2018 Olga will be studying in Norway as part of the “Barents Plus” exchange program.
The English language, as the third most commonly spoken language in the world, continues to dominate in business, trade and medical fields and is becoming even more widely learnt and spoken daily.
Nicholas Ourusoff is no stranger to the USTU community. He is an American lecturer of Russian origin who teaches at the department of computer science, information systems and technologies of the university.
