We wish you a Merry Christmas!

On 25th December the Christmas musical project arranged by International Department was presented in the museum hall of USTU.

The US teachers Katie Bascom and Victoria Pardini celebrated Christmas in Russia for the first time. They made their minds to share magical spirit of the most favourite holiday in the USA with everyone. That was how the idea of this international project appeared.

The choir consisted of university staff and students performed a number of evergreen Christmas songs such as Angels We Have Heard on High, Silent Night, White Christmas, Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer and others. The audience couldn’t help singing along with female choir members Lyudmila Shevchenko, Valentina Sukhanova, Alesya Sabilo and Vladislava Lozhkina. Nicholas Urusoff, Herman Abzaletdinov and Andrey Lozhkin made up a male part of the choir. It didn’t matter if the choir members had a perfect tuneful ear or vocal, the most importat thing was the Christmas mood of everyone, because it was very obvious to see that guys really enjoyed singing.

To surprise of everybody Katie Bascom, Victoria Pardini and Xeniya Kutuzova perfomed a jazz version of Walking in a Winter Wonderland. As explained by Katie, the song doesn’t tell any Christmas story, only a fairy sleigh is mentioned in it. But long time ago Walking in a Winter Wonderland become ingrained in Christmas repertoire.

Valentina Sukhanova, who worked as an English teacher at University for a long time, wished snowy white Christmas to everyone and recited her own poem written a few hours before the show started.

The event finished with tea drinking. Katie and Victoria baked cookies called snickerdoodle, one of Christmas traditional dishes on every table in the USA.
