A USTU Student Took Part in the 5th Korean Arctic Academy
From July 3 to July 13, 2019, the Arctic Academy was held in Busan (South Korea) for the fifth time - a ten-day educational event dedicated to the problems of sustainable development of the Arctic and the Arctic regions. This year the Arctic Academy gathered more than 30 students. Irena Ulyanitskaya, 3rd year student, represented Ukhta University at the event.
The program included presentations and lectures on topics: climate change, geopolitical processes in the Arctic, the structure of intergovernmental bodies on Arctic issues, the activities and interests of Korea in the Arctic. The participants themselves also presented their reports on the topics devoted to the study and sustainable development of regions. Irena Ulyanitska made a report on the “Cryolithozone of the European North of Russia: Social and Environmental Priorities for Sustainable Development”.
During the event, industrial excursions were also organized to Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, Busan New Port, as well as to research organizations - the Korean Maritime Institute (KMI) and the Korean Polar Research Institute.
