4^th of October 2018 marked the beginning of the preparatory course for the second group of students at USTU. Just like the first group, the second group is just as diverse as it consists of students from Liberia, Senegal, Sudan and Canada. During opening ceremony, the students felt many positive emotions, met with their head teacher, Elena Volokhova, who will be their mentor and guide all through the next year and will help them to feel the depth and beauty of the Russian language.

On September 23, 2018, the Republican volunteer forum "Support of volunteerism", dedicated to the year of volunteering in Russia was completed. The forum took place in Ukhta city from September 20. For four days, about 200 participants – high school students, university students, representatives of city organizations and public associations and five "silver" volunteers (volunteers older than 55 years) - attended more than ten lectures of Federal experts Ksenia Nazarenko and Timur Bochanov, trainers of the RSM (Association of trainers Of the Russian youth Union).

September 14, 2018 officially marked the beginning of the 2018/2019 preparatory course. This year's group includes international students from a wide range of countries, including Cameroon, Côte d'ivoire, Zimbabwe, Ghana, Nigeria, India and the United States.

On the 9th of September 2018 a Finnish intern Marjanah Sadiq arrived at the Ukhta Airport to begin her internship journey at USTU, her internship is at the International department of the university, duration of 3 months (from September to November).

Ukhta State Technical University celebrated “Day of Knowledge” on the 1st of September 2018 as it’s always celebrated annually. In the morning, following the tradition of USTU, the Rector, Lecturers and staff of USTU honored the memory of the first Rector of Ukhta industrial Institute (which is now known as USTU) G. E. Panov and Hero of Russia A. I. Alekseev, laying flowers at the memorial plaques.

On Saturday, 30 th June, 2018, a solemn ceremony of awarding diplomas of higher and secondary vocational education was held in the educational and sports complex "Burevestnik" of Ukhta State Technical University.

On Monday, 21st May 2018, Ukhta State Technical University was visited by Dr. See Hong Ong an outstanding lecturer of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) of the oil and gas service company Baker Hughes. Dr. Ong was born in Malaysia and studied at the University of Oklahoma USA, where he graduated with a Bachelor's and Master's degree and received a Doctorate Degree in petroleum engineering.

Within the period of April 22 to May 20, 2018, Ukhta State Technical University was visited by Dr. Scott De Francesco an associate Professor of communications at the Department of communications at the University of Quinnipiac, Connecticut (USA).

Scott has worked in major educational institutions in Europe, Australia and the USA and does freelance work for companies in China. The main profile of his activity is teaching in the field of advertising, PR and strategic communications.

In mid-April 2018, the head of the international Department of USTU Anton Grigoriev returned from a three-month internship within the framework of the Fulbright grant program for employees of international departments (Russia International Education Administrators Program, RIEA), which was held at universities of the United States of America since mid-January 2018. The RIEA program offers an intensive internship in the USA, which consists of several stages.

In the period from 26th to 28th April 2018, USTU has been visited by Kuoma Jean Cottin Gellin, the Counsellor of the Republic of Cameroon. The main purpose of the visit was primarily to acquaintance the visitor with the university complex and discuss areas of collaboration in education and academic sectors.
